Formica should never be cleaned with steel wool, as it tends to get scratched easily. For cleaning, It is best to use water and detergent.
To remove grease, you can use a sponge soaked in a solution of methyl alcohol and ammonia (in equal parts or 1:1 proportion). Scratch marks may be concealed using glue and a fine layer of wax.
