Pianos usually have a glossy, refined finish, so take care when dusting them! The keyboard can be dusted with a feather duster, but to remove the occasional greasy or oily finger stain, dampen a rag in a little alcohol and wipe the keyboard with it. Soapy water should not be used, as it can stain the ivory (or other material) from which the keys are made. It is also good to ventilate the keyboards often, as keyboards made of ivory turn yellow if not exposed to light for extended periods of time.
Avoid putting objects on top of the piano, or ensure that objects are lined with a felt base so as not to scratch the piano surface.
