Ammonia is one of the most common, effective and cheap for household cleaning, however, because of its unpleasant odor and toxicity we are reluctant to use it. Here I give you some advice as to their handling and their uses so you won´t be afraid to use it.

1. High concentrations it may irritate and damage the throat, lungs and respiratory system, so it is advisable to use it in a well-ventilated. You can even get a special mask with ammonia vapor cartridge.
2. Contact with skin it may cause irritation and ampoules, especially when the skin is moist. So you should always wear a pair of gloves when handling ammonia.
3. It can destroy the gastric mucosa if it is ingested, so that under no circumstances misses the reach of children.
4. When it is mixed with bleach forms a very irritating and toxic gas called chloramine therefore never combine them.
Here we explain some uses of ammonia in the home:
Washing machine: to remove the musty smell and mold that accumulates in the washing machine when you didnt ventilate well after washing turn on the washing machine with half a cup of ammonia inside.
CLOTHING
Stains: it is very useful for removing most stains, such as blood, urine, sweat, egg, curry, mustard and other foods with yellow pigment, employ it diluted 50% with water and rub the stain with a clean cloth soaked in the mixture of water and ammonia.
For more stubborn stains make a mixture of equal parts water, ammonia and dish washing soap. Put in a spray bottle, shake and spray on the stain. Resting a few minutes and rinse.
Shabby Collars: moisten the area with ammonia lowered to 50% with water and rub gently with a soft bristle brush (very useful are used brushes for nails).
Soiled linens: add four tablespoons of ammonia to a gallon of water and soak the clothes for a couple of hours. If necessary, rub a little and then wash normally.
Jackets, suits that are washed in dry cleaning: if you dropped a spot in a delicate dress that can only be washed in laundry you can try removing the stain with ammonia. First do the test on a part you can not see (in a part of inside), but deteriorates the fabric rub the stain with a cloth moistened with ammonia lowered to 50% with water, placed under a towel or thick cloth to absorb the excess fluid, to prevent discharge of a fence. Let dry.

Work very dirty clothes: soak in water with a quarter cup of ammonia, very large for stains rub the stain with ammonia before lowered to 50% with water. Soak two hours and wash them normally.
Delicate clothes: for hand washing delicate items dilute a tablespoon of ammonia in the soaking water. It acts as a softener and enhances colors.
Woolens: add one tablespoon of ammonia to the soaking water of sweaters and other garments of wool and hand wash. It smooths the wool and prevents clumping.
Woolen blankets: soak it overnight in a bowl with warm water and four tablespoons of ammonia. The next day, squeeze it by hand and rinse a few times. Dry.
Your children’s plush toys are fine if you wash them in the washing machine with a quarter cup of ammonia; it removes grease and dust and stokes the colors.
Sports footwear: remain as new if you rub them with a cloth soaked in ammonia diluted 50% with water.
With these recommendations and advice respecting the proportions you can make use of a cheap and effective cleaning.
